Frequently asked questions
Answers to common questions about free MOT history checks, advanced analysis reports, credits, and how myMOTreport uses official GOV.UK MOT data.
Is the MOT history check free?
Yes. The standard MOT report is free and does not require an account. It shows the official MOT test history for a UK registration, including pass and fail results, dates, mileage, advisories, and defects where available.
Where does the MOT data come from?
myMOTreport retrieves MOT records from the DVSA MOT History API (GOV.UK). We present that data on our website. myMOTreport is an independent service and is not affiliated with, approved by, or endorsed by DVSA, GOV.UK, or DVLA.
What is the difference between a standard and advanced report?
A standard report shows the official MOT history, similar to checking on GOV.UK. An advanced report uses one credit and adds automated analysis on top: a vehicle score, record checks, interactive charts, summaries, optional DVLA specifications, a downloadable analysis PDF, and side-by-side comparison in your history.
Do I need an account?
No account is needed for a free standard MOT report. You can also pay once to unlock an advanced report for a single registration without creating an account first. A free account is still useful if you want credit packs, search history, side-by-side comparison, or the analysis PDF saved to your account.
What are credits used for?
Credits unlock advanced reports and analysis on vehicles you look up. Standard MOT history never uses a credit. Guests can pay once for a single advanced unlock; credit packs are purchased securely through Stripe Checkout after you create an account.
Can I look up vans, motorbikes, and other vehicles?
Yes. Any UK registration with MOT history available from the DVSA MOT History API can be checked, not only cars.
How often is MOT data refreshed?
To keep lookups fast and reduce unnecessary API calls, we reuse MOT data when it is still current. As an MOT expiry approaches, expires, or fails, we refresh more often so results stay up to date when a new test is likely.
Is this an official GOV.UK service?
No. myMOTreport is a private website that uses publicly available MOT history via the DVSA API. For the official government check, you can also use the GOV.UK MOT history service directly.
