Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
myMOTreport ("we", "us", "our") provides UK vehicle MOT history lookups and automated MOT reports based on official MOT records at https://www.mymotreport.co.uk. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data when you use our website and services.
If you have questions about this policy or your data, contact us at support@mymotreport.co.uk.
2. What data we collect
Depending on how you use the service, we may collect:
- Vehicle registration numbers you enter for MOT lookups
- Account details such as your name and email address if you register or buy credits
- Search history linked to your account, including registration numbers searched, search type (standard or advanced), scores derived from MOT data, shortlists, and the date of each search
- Payment information processed by Stripe when you buy credits (we do not store full card details)
- Technical data such as IP address, browser type, and session identifiers
- Abuse-prevention signals such as Google reCAPTCHA scores when that protection is enabled on forms
- Feedback messages you submit through the signed-in feedback form, stored so we can review and support you
3. How we use your data
We use your data to:
- Retrieve MOT history from the DVSA MOT History API (GOV.UK)
- Optionally enrich vehicle specifications via the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service where configured
- Generate car scores, plain-English summaries, record checks, charts, and downloadable analysis PDFs from MOT records
- Provide your account, search history, remaining credits, advanced unlocks, side-by-side report comparison, and downloadable analysis PDFs or share cards where available
- Process payments and apply purchased credits to your account
- Send service emails, such as sign-in details or purchase confirmations
- Prevent abuse, maintain security, and improve reliability
Our lawful bases under UK GDPR include performing our contract with you, legitimate interests in operating and securing the service, and compliance with legal obligations.
4. MOT data and caching
MOT records are obtained from the DVSA MOT History API. MOT data is public record information made available under the Open Government Licence v3.0, where applicable.
To reduce unnecessary API calls and keep lookups fast, we reuse MOT and analysis results when the underlying MOT record is unlikely to have changed. While a vehicle's MOT is valid and not approaching its renewal date, we keep using cached data. As the MOT due date approaches, passes, or fails, we refresh the data more often. If another user has recently looked up the same registration, we may reuse suitable cached data rather than calling the DVSA API again. Your personal search history remains linked to your account; we do not share your identity with other users when reusing cached data.
5. Automated MOT analysis
Our car scores, summaries, checks, charts, and PDF reports are produced on our servers using fixed, rule-based analysis of MOT history data. We do not use artificial intelligence, machine learning, or external language models. The output presents MOT data only and does not constitute professional vehicle inspection, mechanical advice, or a guarantee of a vehicle's condition. We process MOT data to produce this analysis as part of delivering the service you request.
Standard MOT reports show official GOV.UK MOT history. Advanced reports and unlocked advanced analysis add our automated analysis layer and related features described on the website.
6. Third parties we share data with
We may share limited data with:
- DVSA / GOV.UK: we send registration numbers to retrieve MOT history
- DVLA: where vehicle specification enrichment is enabled, we may send registration numbers to the Vehicle Enquiry Service
- Stripe: payment processing when you purchase credits
- Google: reCAPTCHA verification when that protection is enabled on forms
- Hosting and infrastructure providers: to run the application securely
- Email providers: to send account and transaction emails
We do not sell your personal data.
7. How long we keep data
- Account data is kept while your account remains active
- Search history is retained to support your dashboard, comparison tools, and service delivery
- Cached MOT data is refreshed periodically; older cached records may be removed during routine maintenance
- Payment records are retained as required for accounting, tax, and dispute resolution
You may request deletion of your account data subject to legal and operational requirements.
We may delete accounts and associated personal data without prior notice where we reasonably believe the account or service has been abused or misused (including fraud, scraping, automated abuse, or security risks).
9. Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request erasure in certain circumstances
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Data portability where applicable
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)
To exercise these rights, email support@mymotreport.co.uk.
10. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections, access controls, and secure handling of payment data via Stripe. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
11. Children
Our service is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
