How it works

myMOTreport helps you research a UK-registered vehicle using official MOT history. Enter a registration number and we retrieve MOT records from the DVSA MOT History API (GOV.UK), then present that data on our website.

  1. Standard MOT report (free): no account is required. You receive the official MOT test history for that registration, including pass/fail results, dates, mileage, advisories, and defects where available.
  2. Advanced report (1 credit): requires a signed-in account with at least one credit. Advanced reports add automated MOT analysis on top of the standard history: a car score, record checks, interactive charts, pass-rate and usage summaries, optional DVLA vehicle specifications, a downloadable analysis PDF, and side-by-side comparison of advanced reports in your history.
  3. Unlock later: if you already have a standard report, you can unlock the advanced report for that vehicle using one credit without running a new report.
  4. Credits (optional): buy credit packs through Stripe Checkout. Credits are used for advanced reports and unlocks, not for standard MOT history.

To keep the service fast and to reduce unnecessary API usage, we reuse MOT data when it is still current. If a vehicle's MOT is valid and not near its due date, we may not rescan the registration on every lookup. As the MOT expiry approaches, expires, or fails, we refresh the data more frequently so you see up-to-date results when a new test is likely. Looking up the same registration again under your account updates your existing history entry for that vehicle rather than creating a duplicate row.

By using this website, you agree to these Terms and Conditions and our Privacy Policy.

1. About the service

We provide UK vehicle MOT history lookups and automated MOT analysis derived from DVSA MOT records. The service is operated from the United Kingdom and is intended for users researching UK-registered vehicles. myMOTreport is an independent service and is not affiliated with, approved by, or endorsed by DVSA, GOV.UK, DVLA, or any other government body.

2. Data only, no professional advice

Our automated summaries, car scores, charts, checks, and PDF reports are produced on our servers from MOT records (and, where available, related DVLA vehicle enquiry data). They present historical MOT data only and do not replace a physical inspection, HPI check, finance enquiry, or advice from a qualified mechanic or motor trader. MOT history does not reveal accident damage, clocking with certainty, or every fault a vehicle may have.

myMOTreport does not inspect vehicles or advise on purchases.

3. Accuracy and availability

MOT data is supplied by third parties, principally the DVSA MOT History API. Where applicable, that data is made available under the Open Government Licence v3.0 and is licensed to us and to you "as is". DVSA and the licensor exclude representations, warranties, obligations, and liabilities relating to the information to the maximum extent permitted by law. DVSA does not guarantee that the information is complete, current, or error-free, or that it will continue to be supplied.

Where we enrich a report with vehicle specifications, we may also call the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service. That data is likewise supplied by a third party and may be incomplete or unavailable for some registrations.

Our automated summaries, scores, and charts are based on that data. We do not guarantee that our reports are complete, current, or error-free. The service may be unavailable during maintenance, API outages, rate limiting, or events outside our control.

If MOT data cannot be retrieved for an advanced report, we will not keep a credit charge for that failed lookup. You may retry the report later.

4. Accounts

You may browse and run standard MOT reports without an account. An account is required for advanced reports, unlocking advanced analysis, buying credits, viewing your report history, and comparing advanced reports. An account may be created when you register or automatically when you complete a purchase, using the email address provided to Stripe.

You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.

We may suspend or permanently delete accounts without prior warning where we reasonably believe there has been abuse, fraud, scraping, automated misuse, a breach of these terms, or other conduct that harms the service or other users.

5. Paid credits and advanced reports

When you buy credits:

  • Prices on the site are shown in pounds sterling (£) and are the amount you pay at checkout
  • Payments are processed securely by Stripe; we do not store your full card number
  • Credits are applied to your account after payment is confirmed via Stripe webhooks
  • One credit is used for each advanced report, or to unlock advanced analysis on an existing standard report, unless we state otherwise at the point of purchase
  • Standard MOT history reports do not use credits
  • New users may receive free advanced report credit(s) when they create an account, where this offer is shown on the site
  • Credits do not auto-renew and are not a subscription unless explicitly described as such

If payment succeeds but credits are not applied immediately, your account may show a brief processing state while we confirm the transaction. Contact us if credits remain missing after a reasonable period.

6. Duplicate lookups and caching

Looking up the same registration again within our cache period may return previously fetched MOT data. This is intentional: it improves response times and limits repeated API calls. A repeat advanced report of a vehicle you already hold may reuse cached MOT data. Whether an additional credit is charged depends on whether you choose a fresh advanced report or open previous results, as shown in the lookup flow. We will make the applicable options clear before a credit is used.

7. Acceptable use

You must not:

  • Use the service for unlawful purposes or to harass vehicle owners
  • Attempt to scrape, bulk-harvest, or reverse engineer the platform
  • Circumvent access controls, credit limits, or payment requirements
  • Submit false, misleading, or malicious registrations at scale
  • Interfere with the security or performance of the website

We may suspend or terminate access where we reasonably believe these terms have been breached.

8. Intellectual property

The website design, branding, and original analysis text are owned by us or our licensors. MOT data remains subject to the terms under which it is published by government sources, including the Open Government Licence v3.0. You may not reproduce or resell our analysis commercially without permission.

9. Refunds and cancellation

Credits and the advanced MOT reports they unlock are digital content. When your payment is confirmed, credits are added to your account immediately so you can use them straight away. When you spend a credit, the advanced analysis, charts, checks, and related report features for that registration are delivered at the same time.

If you buy online as a consumer, the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 normally give you a 14-day right to cancel a distance contract without giving a reason. That right does not apply to digital content once supply has started, if you have given express consent for us to begin supply before the end of the cancellation period and acknowledged that you will lose your right to cancel (Regulation 37). By completing a purchase and accepting these terms, you ask us to supply your credits immediately and acknowledge that your statutory right to cancel will be lost once those credits are added to your account.

Because supply is immediate, we do not offer refunds on completed purchases, including where credits remain unused on your account. We also do not refund credits or payments where you entered an incorrect registration, searched the wrong vehicle, or otherwise submitted details in error. Please check the registration carefully before confirming an advanced report. This does not affect your separate rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 if digital content is faulty, not as described, or not of satisfactory quality.

If payment is taken but credits are not applied because of a failure on our side, contact us with your order details and we will correct the error or refund the payment as appropriate.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from reliance on MOT data or automated summaries, decisions you make based on that data, third-party API failures, or indirect or consequential losses. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under UK consumer protection law.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, without prejudice to your statutory rights if you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the United Kingdom.

12. Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. Material changes will be noted on this page.
